Attracted by the economic success of these, other more traditional publishers tried to repeat the formula. This was the case of the Catalan exile Joan Merli Pahissa (1901-1995), founder of Poseidón, a prestigious publishing house created in Argentina that to date had focused on more classical literature and books on art and architecture. Noticing the sales figures in popular literature, Merli decided to create a company parallel to Poseidon, called Malinca. Although I have read in various places that Malinca's founding year is 1960, that date is clearly wrong, because the first publications of his novels date back to 1955. During the 1950s and 1960s, Malinca launched various pocket collections police, and specifically Débora ( in 1955 ), Espionage (1962), Cobalt (1956) , New Pandora (launched in 1955, the original Pandora was a collection of Poseidon dedicated to the classics, and which in its last stage incorporated police titles, some of them very interesting, by the way) and Nueva Linterna (1958, in this case the original Lantern was a Chilean collection published by the Zigzag publishing house); in addition to collections of other genres such as Western ( Boomerang
Collection ), or romantic ( Passionate Collections , and Kim )
You will also get within this series the usual great writers like Norman A. Daniels, Jonathon Craig, Florence Stonebraker, Richard S. Prather, Evan Hunter and from the UK the house names of Hans Luger, Bart Carson, Nat Karta, Lew Della .
There were two different sub titles (and yes these are not Digest size books but paperbacks, but there relevance to the great digest artwork was the reason for my listing below) and both were published by Malinca, there was Debora, Pandora and also Nueva Lanterna (which has no connection with the Digest covers but thought I would add as they also have some cool covers), I will list as much info as I can on all but am stil trying to fill in the gaps.

Malinca also published this run of paperbacks from 1958 through to 1959 . These are more in the Detective/Crime genre style. I am trying to build a list of titles but this run of books is proving elusive but I hope to gather more info as and when I can.
